Utmost Wins Staffing Industry Analysts’ “Shark Tank” Innovation Competition

Judges cite Utmost’s focus on serving Workday customers and enabling total talent management.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 21, 2020 - Staffing Industry Analysts, the global advisor on staffing and workforce solutions, named Utmost the winner of its Technology Innovation Shark Tank-style Competition at their annual conference: Collaboration in the Gig Economy on Sept 17-18, 2020.

This award highlights Utmost for its innovativeness in talent technology and potential for disrupting the existing market. Utmost provides software that enables Workday customers to track their extended workforces, which include contingent workers, consultants, contractors and freelancers, among others.

To win this award, Utmost Co-founder and COO Dan Beck pitched Utmost to a group of seasoned executives in a “Shark Tank” style competition. Judges included

  • Jai Shekhawat, Founder & Former CEO, SAP Fieldglass
  • Pete Flint, Managing Partner, NFX
  • Rebecca Henderson, CEO & Executive Board Member, Randstad
  • Gary Swart, Partner, Polaris Partners

Pitches were then assessed based on the following criteria: level of innovation, market potential, and quality of the presentation.

The judges cited Utmost’s relationship with Workday customers as a key reason they selected Utmost.

“I like the business, it’s got a built-in customer base,” said Shekhawat. “I think he has a bright future ahead of him; not easy, but I wish him all the best.” And Flint continued, “Utmost stood out, just their thoughtfulness, their experience, their distribution; I think that really stood out. This is a terrific opportunity; it’s a burning need for many enterprises.”

Further, judges noted an increasing need for enterprises to get complete visibility into their extended workforce.

“Although there was something timely in everything we saw today, Utmost, in particular, I think is really timely to what enterprise customers, HR executives, hiring managers are trying to solve right now,” said Henderson.

Other finalists in the competition include other emerging talent technology companies included One Circle, Venture L, and Torre.

In the next few months, Utmost will release new features that enable improved extended workforce management for Workday customers:

  • Centralize hiring processes for external workers
  • Track worker time-and-expenses to specific cost centers
  • Manage multiple engagements per worker
  • Delegate and assign tasks for worker onboarding
  • Configure different fields and forms
  • And much, much more
